FWIW I bought a variable speed 6" bench grinder by Porter Cable on sale at Lowes for under $70. They also make a VS 8" for around $120. My little 6" is amazingly powerful. I bought and immediately stripped off the wheels and guards and put buffing wheels on it. It polishes ivory like a dream.
